But Carter himself is very very nice and is really smart so he will help you and he is a really good person.The bolded first line begins with a capitalized abbreviation that designates the subject area followed by the course number and title. Make sure you take notes during class and look up quizlets and find a good group to work with. The lecture part of this class is hard because the information is super boring and dull and his midterms are hard so definitely study for them because they will end up affecting your final grade so do put in effort studying for them. During the lab, he doesn't really do anything except for the Diptrace part and it's the TAs who end up helping you, but in my class at least, they were all super nice and helpful so it didn't really make a difference. Carter grades super generously on the final project. It's a really cool, fun, and informative lab and the three quizzes given are really really easy if you've done the reading and answered the accompanying questions (or just looked up a quizlet online). You learn how to solder, crimp, work with metal, continuity testing, and how to design a circuit board. The lab part of this class is so easy, no matter who your instructor is because you're building your light kit which is so much fun and so freaking cool. So I had Carter for both lab and lecture. If you have trouble with your power supply, also try visiting Perks during his office hours, I heard he was a beast when it came to this stuff. ![]() Try to choose the time of the LAB on a day that isn't missed due to holidays because you really need all the time you can get. All in all, an easy class stay ahead when assembling your power supply and always test things as you go. Questions would show up twice and it was based on a program you used in class for about a day called DipTrace while he said it would be based on the assembly of the power supply. The quizzes are based on weekly homework readings and are given to you in advance so you can answer and study them. However, small things would be docked off and he was would always explain why in great detail and in a very easy-to-understand way so you were never mad for the grade you got. I would say I was average at the quality of my soldering and assembly and he still gave me an A on the power supply. Carter was known to be a much easier grader on the power supply than Perks from what I heard. The course is basically a bunch of quizzes and a major project, the power supply, that you work on all quarter. I had him for the LAB of IME-156 while still having Perks for the LEC. Professor Carter is an amazing guy overall, an easy grader and very knowledgeable. ![]()
